Does Persian interior design use wallpaper or solid paint?

I’m drafting ideas for my new decorating project, my living room! I want to give it a bit more character that doesn’t steer too much away from my personal décor style. I want the room to have heavily patterned wallpaper, but I don’t know if I should just use a solid paint color. I want the interior to be Persian-inspired.
