I recently bought a country cottage and want to renovate it. I've always admired the Mediterranean interior design and want to design my living space to look like a Spanish coastal home. Is it necessary to match my furniture to a floral patterned living room vinyl rug to create a Mediterranean feel?

In terms of the floral pattern, not necessarily, no. You can match certain colors in your floral rugs with different furniture or other decor elements. If for example your rug has vibrant blues, you can complement it with a white washed coffee table. Rugs with reds or yellows can be mirrored with a bright red ottoman.
