Do premium vinyl table runners work well with glassware at formal dinner events?

We're planning a Christmas dinner for our family, and I'd like to bring out crystal glasses to add a touch of luxury to the occasion. I have the perfect silverware collection, but I need help finding the proper table runner. My partner suggested we try premium vinyl for a one-of-a-kind look. I'm afraid vinyl is not appropriate for the glassware. Can we use high-quality vinyl with glassware at a formal dinner?
