Is shape important when selecting a decorative iron tray for a living room?

My father recently bought me a round coffee table for my new apartment. I'm gradually exploring a modern look and feel that is more in line with my personal style, and I want to do more. My girlfriend suggested I try an iron tray to add character, but I'm not sure what shape works best with round tables.
