Should I clean my iron trays by hand or by machine to keep them in good condition?

I've enjoyed my first set of iron trays and I'm thinking of spoiling my friends. My kids love serving food on them but often get them messy. I want to keep their finish for a long time, but I'm unsure if putting them in the dishwasher is preferable to hand washing. Should I be worried?

I'm glad you're enjoying your iron trays! But if you want to keep them for a long time, the I would absolutely recommend NOT putting them in a dishwasher. Excess water can lead to unpleasant rusting. Rather hand wash. You can use a very mild soap and dry off the trays immediately. Alternatively, simply wipe down with a clean damp cloth and then dry off immediately with a dry cloth.
