Can blue tones on a rug bring the Mediterranean palette into my living room?

I love the Mediterranean color palette, and I want my next living room update based on it. I love blue hues, especially azure, and my sister thinks it would be perfect on a quality vinyl rug. I am still a bit reserved if it is an ideal choice. Will it work for this purpose?
