The Trivet: A Multipurpose Kitchen Item
The trivet is an often underappreciated kitchen item, but we're here to help you discover its different uses. It's an item you must have in your kitchen!
Published August 9, 2022.
A trivet is a small, three-legged tray placed on surfaces like table runners and dining tables to protect against the heat from food containers. They suspend the hot cookware at least one inch above the surface, so there is good airflow. Trivets can be simplistic in design or elaborate and pretty. They're made from metal, ceramic, wood, cork, or silicone.
What Is a Trivet Used For?
A trivet has multiple uses, but its main purpose stays the same—to protect surfaces against the heat of cookware. But you can use it to also protect your food against heat.
As a Baking Stand
You can place your trivet inside an instant pot, so your baking goods don’t touch the bottom and burn. That way, you can make perfect dishes in your steam pot without worrying that the food will burn when the pot’s bottom gets really hot.
For Steaming Veggies
Again, you can put the trivet inside your instant pot. This time, use it to steam your vegetables perfectly without direct contact with the hot sides and bottom of the pot that can ruin them.
To Boil Eggs
Placing your eggs directly in the instant pot will burn them. Instead, fill your pot with water, place the trivet inside, and put the eggs in.
A Must-Have in Your Kitchen
No kitchen should be without a trivet. Not only do they help protect against heat, but they’re also attractive pieces that make your kitchen feel more like a kitchen and the heart of the home, as it should be.
