Key Differences Between Rugs and Carpets
Carpets and rugs are often confused with each other, but they're two different things. Need to know what makes them different? Let's find out!

The terms "rug" and "carpet" are often used interchangeably. Although they’re both used to cover floors, rugs and carpets are quite different. Let’s take a look at the difference so that you can make more informed decisions the next time you have to plan around rug sizes in open concept living room spaces, and the type of floor covering you want.
What Is a Rug?
Rugs are thick, heavy pieces of fabric that we can place on the floor but don’t take up the whole room’s space. They can be cleaned and maintained much easier because most of them can be washed in large washing machines.
Rugs are available in many different shapes, colors, and designs. They’re made from different materials and don’t have second layers.
What Is a Carpet?
Carpets cover the entire floor of a room, are typically rather thick and slip-resistant, and offer a nice layer of insulation and warmth. Because carpets are glued or nailed to the floor, they can’t be cleaned as easily as rugs.
Carpets can give a room a unified look and can be bought in many different colors and patterns.
Rug vs Carpet: Choose What Suits Your Space Best
Your choice between using a rug or carpet will depend on which option suits your home, décor tastes, and preferences best. Carpets are big and can be challenging to maintain but offer nice warmth. Rugs are smaller, easier to manage and keep clean, and can be moved around as you see fit.
Alternatively, consider using both and place your rugs on your carpets.
